#AdviceToMyChildren
Blog. I don't care if it's old school WordPress, Vlog on YouTube, or recorded live streams on Twitch. Hopefully it's a combination of different mediums, but I heavily encourage a written blog.
The things you're thinking about right now (how to break into the business world with a high school diploma, how to build a history curriculum that fascinates high school teenagers, how to build a bit coin miner, enhance a Nerf dart gun, or build a Wankel engine from scrap parts) are topics of interest to others. They want to learn from you. Teach them! Share what you learn. Share what you think. Share what you don't know!
By doing so, you will adopt a teaching mindset. This will help you improve your thinking, help you process information, and begin building a network of connections.
The things you want to write about or capture might change over time. That's okay! Your audience will change and adapt with you.
You'll feel like what you're doing is "rubbish", not worthy of sharing. Run away from that thinking! My earliest blogs were terrible (heck, even some of my latest blogs are terrible). But I learned so much through the process of committing thoughts to a written medium, publishing content, and responding to feedback (both positive and negative) -- much more than if I had simply filed the information away in my private engineering journal (which I also keep and update daily).
The world needs more creators. More makers. Be one of them. Even if all you're creating now is a public journal of your path to learning more. The world needs you.
